Exhorts party legislators to counter opposition
Jammu, Feb 22:
Refusing to comment on whether former Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed should resign, Union minister and ruling National Conference president Farooq Abdullah Wednesday said it is for the Congress high command to decide on it.
"I don't know whether he should resign, it is for Congress high command to decide," Abdullah told reporters in response to a question about Peerzada.
Replying to a question on the notice given to former Education Minister Peerzada by the State Accountability Commission (SAC) in connection with a case relating to using unfair means to help his son pass the Class X board exam in 2009, Abdullah said, "Commission has sent him notice. The law will take its course.”
Earlier, Farooq Abdullah exhorted the party legislators to counter the "provocations" of main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In its Legislature Party meeting held here today on the eve of the Budget session of the State Legislature beginning Thursday, NC president Farooq Abdullah, who is also the union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, emphasized the importance of the legislative business in a democracy and urged the legislators to discuss the issues pertaining to the development of the state and the welfare of the people, a party spokesman said.
He also advised the ministers to heed the voices of the people articulated through the legislators on the floor of the house.
"The coalition government in the state in the last three years has made certain notable achievements, and the ruling coalition legislators together should showcase those achievements in the upper and lower houses through effective and informed debate," spokesman quoted Farooq as having said.
The party president also asked the NC legislators to maintain the coalition dharma and work in close coordination with the coalition partner Congress.
"He advised the legislators to maintain composure despite the anticipated provocations by the opposition, which he said is frustrated and does not really have any issue worth its while to pursue," the spokesman said.
The “achievements of the coalition government” headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were highlighted at the meeting, spokesman added.
