Lays foundation for additional accommodation at GHS Barjala
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 06
-Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today said that the education sector has recorded much progress during last three years of coalition government.
He said the consolidation of infrastructure in newly opened and upgraded institutions received focused attention of the government over these years.
The Minister was addressing a large gathering at Barjala after laying foundation for construction of additional rooms and Varandha at GHS Barjala, here today.
District Development Commissioner Sanjeev Verma besides other senior officers of R&B, PHE, School Education and RDD accompanied the Minister.
Bhalla said the Government has approved Rs. 64 lakh for upgradation of infrastructure at Government High School Barjala which include the construction of additional rooms, toilet block, boundary wall and provision for drinking water facilities.
Bhalla said Rs. 14 lakh have already been released to start the work adding that present regime was committed to provide all infrastructural facilities to the students at par with private institutions. He said past few years have witnessed steep increase in the enrolment in Government schools primarily due to the availability of better infrastructure and qualified staff in these government run institutions.
The Minister said the Government has been making every endeavour  to eradicate illiteracy from the State. He said School Education Ministry has played a pivotal role in taking education to every part of the State by launching new schemes. He said the education reformative measures have brought revolution in education sector and the state was fast heading towards achieving the goal of 100% literacy.
Bhalla asked the parents to send their wards to schools so that they become good citizens and serve the country. He asked the teaching fraternity to put their sincere efforts in providing quality education to the students and also inculcate moral values in them
The Minister said central Government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is providing liberal funding to the state to further improve the education standards. He said central Government has introduced RAMSA scheme for upgradation of infrastructural facilities in High and Higher secondary schools in the State by providing Rs 69 crore funds. He said 69 schools would be upgraded under RAMSA across the state adding that Rs. 58 lakh would be spent on construction of additional rooms and 15 lakh for making provision for science laboratories in each newly upgraded high and higher secondary school.
Bhalla asked the teaching fraternity to make concerted efforts to ensure better future for students and make them real builders of the nation. He asked the students to work hard in achieving cent percent results in coming exams.
The Minister called upon the staff to encourage extracurricular activities in the school in a systematic manner, a prestigious state.
Responding to the locals demand, the Minister asked the R&B authorities to prepare estimates for construction of approach road to cremation ground including waiting shed at Barjala along the right bank of river Tawi.
