JK producing 768 MW from 22 hydel power projects

Jammu, Feb 06 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir is generating 768 MW of electricity from 22 hydel power projects owned by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation.
As many as 768.96 MW of electricity is being generated from 22 hydel power projects by Jammu and Kashmir government, Senior General Manager, Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKSDC), R K Chanyal said here.
The state-owned JKSPDC, which was incorporated on 16 February 1995, has been running the affairs of the state-owned 22 hydel power projects including the 450 MW Baglihar Power project in Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from this, JKSPDC is producing 150 Mega watt of thermal power from Gas Turbine station one and two at Pampore in Kashmir Valley for winter season.
Of these oldest hydel power project - Ganderbal Unit-I and Unit-II with a capacity of 3 MW each was set up in February 1955 followed by its Unit-III and 4th with a capacity of 4.5 MWs each in 1961.
Chenani-I, II and III with a installed capacity of 4.66 MW each was commissioned in 1971 followed its two other units of same capacity in 1975.
The first mega hydel power - Lower Jehlum-I, II and III with a capacity of 35 MWs each were commissioned in 1978 and 1979.
Baglihar hydro power project Unit-I, II and III with installed capacity of 150 MWs were commissioned April 01, 2009 by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Chanderkote in Ramban district.
