Jammu, Feb 22: State Accountability Commission (SAC) has directed Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather to explain his position vis-a-vis allegations that he has contracted his son for preparation of Smart Cards for Secretariat employees.
The significant order was issued by SAC court comprising chairman Justice (retd) Y P Nargotra, and member Justice (retd) Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain, against a complaint filed by Yuva Shakti Vikas Mission raising serious allegations against Rather.
In the complaint Mission has alleged that Rather gave a contract worth Rs two crore to his son in respect of preparing Smart Cards for the Secretariat employees in gross violation of the codal formalities and thus showered huge and illegal benefits upon him despite his being not qualified to run such a project.
SAC observed that allegation relating to the preparation of Smart Cards leveled against Rather deserved cognizance and regular inquiry by the Commission, and directed the SAC office to register the complaint for regular inquiry and issue notice to Abdul Rahim Rather for appearance in person or through counsel before the Commission on March 06.
