Uma Garg performs at SaMaPa Aalap Festival

Jammu, Feb 06: On the tenth day session of the 7th Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ by Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) vocal recital by Vidushi Uma Garg was the main highlight.
The function was attended by Santoor maestro and music composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, eminent musicologist and senior music critic of the country and vice-president SaMaPa Pt. Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, and famous Sufi maestro Ragini Rainu, amongst others including a large number of students and staff of the at Lawrence Public School, Sidhra, Jammu, and music lovers.
Vidushi Uma Garg, a renowned classical vocalist of Kirana Gharana, presented Bada Khayal and Chota Khayal compositions in Raga Jaunpuri.
Being a versatile vocalist, Uma Garg has an equal command on the light classical styles too and concluded her recital with 2 Bhajan compositions. She explained the students the nuances of singing, the basic exercises for practicing music and also made the students sing with her various phrases and compositions.
She was accompanied by Sarit Das on Tabla, Abid Hussain on Sarangi and Sajjad Ahmed on Harmonium.
This was followed by a question answer session. Earlier Abhay Sopori thanked the Lawrence School family for being a constant partner in Aalap Festival and realizing the significance of music.
He also introduced the musicians and spoke to the young students enlightening them with the traditional heritage and music. Programme began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony.
On 7th February, SaMaPa Aalap Festival will feature a special concert by Abhay Rustum Sopori at Ved Mandir, Amphalla for the children of Bal and Balika Niketan at 11:00 am.
